Preface

  1. This Act shall be known as the Vehicle Registration Plates Act, Bill 943, 2025.

Definitions

  1. A plate shall be considered a metal sheet with the design screened on.
  2. A decal shall be considered a vinyl sticker, or like, with the design screened on.
  3. A baseplate shall be considered the design of a plate or decal, used to categorize different registration types.

  3. Trailers are considered vehicles, and shall be equipped with a plate or decal.
  4. Vehicles issued under any division of Baustralia, a realm, or a territory, which is not at municipal level, shall be issued exempt baseplates, and be exempted from any tolls, taxes, or fees, relating to the registration or operation of the vehicle.
  5. All plates are issued in a supplemental format, with numeric groups incrementing first where applicable.
    1. O, I, Q, and U are not used on plates, except for diplomatic baseplates.
    2. Numeric groups shall not consist of solely zeroes, except for diplomatic baseplates and ‘prime minister’ personal sub-baseplates.
  6. All plates are property of His Royal Government, and must be returned on request.
  7. In the case of a sale, the plate remains in the possession of the seller, and does not remain with a vehicle after sale.
  8. The Secretary of State may issue new baseplates, or make modifications to existing baseplates, as required, by order, though an Act of Parliament is required to scrap or invalidate existing plates.

Baseplates

  1. Standard baseplates will contain the following:
    1. Top-centre: “BAUSTRALIA”.
    2. Top-right: the Baustralian Fish.
    3. Bottom: the baseplate type, each assigned a legend.
    4. Separator: the royal crown, replaced with a hyphen in writing.
  2. Baseplates shall be issued in the following types:
    1. Personal baseplates shall be a standard white-on-blue baseplate with a “PERSONAL” legend. The serial format shall be AAA-000, commencing with AAB-001. The serials AAA-001 through AAA-999 were discontinued with the creation of the 2025 series plates.
      1. The Prime Minister is entitled to the usually diplomatic combination PM-0000, and relinquishes the plate upon termination of that office. Upon leaving the office, he is issued a number of that format in sequence to use for life, except if revoked at the order of the Secretary of State.
    2. Commercial baseplates shall be a standard black-on-white baseplate with a “COMMERCIAL” legend. The serial formal shall be 000-AAA, commencing with 001-AAA.
      1. Vehicles with a box, or one built on a frame of a vehicle which normally would have a box, even for non-commercial purposes, shall be equipped with a commercial baseplate.
    3. Diplomatic baseplates shall be a standard white-on-red baseplate with a “DIPLOMATIC” legend. The serial format shall consist of a prefix bearing the registrants home nation’s RIS 002-1 alpha-2 code, and a four-digit numeral group separated by a royal crown.
    4. Military baseplates shall be a standard white-on-green baseplate with a “MILITARY” legend. The serial format is 0000, commencing at 0001. As there is no separator, the royal crown appears in the top-left corner.
    5. Exempt baseplates shall be a standard white-on-black baseplate with an “EXEMPT” legend. The serial format is 00X00, commencing at 0001. The X stays constant. As there is no separator, the royal crown appears in the top-left corner.
    6. Trailer baseplates shall be a standard blue-on-white baseplate with a “TRAILER” legend. The serial format is AA-000, commencing at AA-001.
