An Act to prevent By-Elections to the Parliament within two months of a scheduled dissolution, and to provide for the automatic cancellation of By-Elections interrupted by an unscheduled dissolution, and for purposes connected therewith
Be it Enacted by His Most Gracious and Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of Parliament assembled, as follows–
Preface
- This Act shall be known as the By-Elections Act, 2026, Bill 9253.
Calling of by-elections
- By-elections shall be called within 7 business days of the opening of the vacancy of a seat, for any reason.
- The polling date for by-elections can not be any fewer than 7 business days following the calling of the by-election, with a maximum of 21 business days.
Interruption of by-elections
- If a by-election is scheduled, and the automatic dissolution of Parliament will occur two months prior to the maximum polling day, the by-election shall be cancelled.
