8 & 9 John 1, chapter 1

An Act to amend the Twenty-Ninth Chapter of the Statutes of Parliament that sat during the Eighth year of the Reign of King John, to amend the definition for "Parliamentary Sessions" as described in Section 12 of the same Act from periods of a month to periods of a year, to amend the speech from the throne from opening each Parliament, to open each Session of Parliament instead, to amend the non-voting provisions and for purposes connected therewith

Be it enacted by His Most Gracious and Excellent Majesty the following:-

Preface

  1. This Bill shall be known as the Sessions Act, Bill 913, 2025.

Amendments to the Procedures of Parliament

  1. 8 John 1 c. 29 s. 12 shall be amended to read: 'A Session may not last more than one year in duration, and if a session reaches that time period, it automatically ceases to exist.'
  2. 8 John 1 c. 29 s. 13 shall be amended to read: 'Each Session of the Parliament of Baustralia, upon the conclusion of a general election, is to be reopened by the Crown of Baustralia by a Speech from the Throne.'

Amendments to the Non-Voting Provisions

  1. 8 John 1 c. 29 s. 29 shall be amended to read: 'A Member of Parliament, who does not speak, debate, or vote in Parliament for half of a session, ceases to be a Member of Parliament, at the beginning of the following session.'

Consolidation of the monthly periods

  1. The period of time from the beginning of the tenth Parliament to the anniversary thereof shall be considered a single session of Parliament.
