An Act to place limits on criminal proceedings after a period of time
- Petty crimes shall have a limitation period of six months.
- Indictable offences shall not have a limitation period.
- Claims of debts unpaid shall have a limitation period of three years.
- Injury claims shall have a limitation period of 24 months.
- Libel and such claims shall have a limitation period of 6 months.
- Contracts, unless prescribed within the contract, shall have a default limitation period of four years.
- A limitation period shall be defined as a requirement for criminal or civil proceedings, in which the claim must be made before such time passes.
- All proceedings left undefined by this Act, or further Acts, shall be considered to not have a limitation period.
- This Act shall be known as the Limitations Act, 2024, Bill C7161.
